Orange Chicken Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Chicken:

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breast or thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
  • 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for some heat)

For Garnish (optional):

  • Sesame seeds
  • Sliced green onions

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Chicken:
    • In a large bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
    • Dip the chicken pieces into the beaten eggs, then coat them thoroughly in the flour mixture.
    • Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pan or wok over medium-high heat. When the oil reaches about 350°F (175°C), fry the chicken in batches for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through. Use a slotted spoon to remove the chicken and drain on paper towels.
  2. Make the Orange Sauce:
    • In a separate saucepan, combine the orange juice, orange zest, soy sauce, sugar, rice vinegar, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
    • Once the sauce is simmering, mix the cornstarch with water to make a slurry, then pour it into the sauce. Stir and continue to cook for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy.
  3. Combine:
    • Once the chicken is all fried, add it to the saucepan with the orange sauce. Toss to coat the chicken evenly with the sauce.
  4. Serve:
    • Serve your orange chicken over steamed rice, and garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions if desired.
