🍨 Vanilla Mousse with Chocolate Chips

Ingredients (Serves 4):

  • 1 cup (240 ml) heavy whipping cream, cold

  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) whole milk

  • 1/4 cup (50 g) granulated sugar

  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract

  • 1 Β½ tsp unflavored gelatin (or 1 sheet)

  • 2 tbsp cold water (for blooming gelatin)

  • 1/3 cup (60 g) mini chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)

1. Bloom the Gelatin

  • In a small bowl, sprinkle gelatin over 2 tbsp cold water.

  • Let sit for 5–10 minutes to bloom (soften).

2. Heat the Milk Mixture

  • In a small saucepan, warm the milk and sugar over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Do not boil.

  • Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.

  • Add bloomed gelatin and stir until fully dissolved.

3. Cool the Base

  • Let the vanilla milk mixture cool to room temperature (you can speed this up by placing the saucepan in an ice bath and stirring).

4. Whip the Cream

  • In a cold bowl, beat the heavy cream until soft peaks form.

5. Combine

  • Gently fold the cooled vanilla mixture into the whipped cream in 2–3 additions until smooth.

  • Fold in mini chocolate chips carefully.

6. Chill

  • Spoon or pipe into serving glasses or bowls.

  • Cover and chill for 2–3 hours, or until set.


🍫 To Serve:

  • Garnish with extra chocolate chips, whipped cream, or shaved chocolate.

  • Optional: Add fresh berries or a dusting of cocoa powder.

  • No gelatin? Replace with 1 tbsp of instant pudding powder for a quick-fix mousse texture.

  • Vegan option? Use coconut cream, almond milk, and agar-agar instead of cream, milk, and gelatin.
