Taco Bell Tostada

Posted on July 8, 2025

Here’s a copycat-style recipe for the Taco Bell Tostada, bringing back the nostalgic flavors of this fan-favorite menu item that was sadly discontinued — but not forgotten!

This tostada features a crispy tortilla base, refried beans, seasoned beef (optional), shredded lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, and Taco Bell-style red sauce for that signature taste.

🌮 Taco Bell Tostada (Copycat Recipe)

👩‍🍳 Servings: 4

🕒 Total Time: 25–30 minutes

🧾 Ingredients

🔸 Base:

  • 4 corn tostada shells (store-bought or homemade, see tip below)

  • 1 (15 oz) can refried beans (or homemade)

  • 1 cup shredded lettuce

  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or a cheddar-jack blend)

🔸 Optional: Seasoned Beef

  • 1/2 lb ground beef

  • 1/2 packet taco seasoning (or 1 tbsp homemade)

  • 1/4 cup water

🔸 Taco Bell–Style Red Sauce:

  • 1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce

  • 1/4 tsp chili powder

  • 1/4 tsp paprika

  • 1/4 tsp onion powder

  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/4 tsp cumin

  • Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)

  • Salt, to taste

  • 1/2 tsp white vinegar

  • 1/4 cup water

🔪 Instructions

1. Make the Red Sauce (Optional but Authentic):

  • In a small saucepan, combine all red sauce ingredients.

  • Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.

  • Cook for 5–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened. Set aside.

2. Prepare the Beef (if using):

  • Brown ground beef in a skillet. Drain excess fat.

  • Stir in taco seasoning and water. Simmer until thickened, about 5 minutes.

3. Heat the Beans:

  • Warm refried beans in a saucepan or microwave until smooth and spreadable.

4. Assemble the Tostadas:

  • Spread a generous layer of refried beans on each tostada shell.

  • (Optional) Add a layer of seasoned beef on top of the beans.

  • Drizzle with Taco Bell red sauce.

  • Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and shredded cheese.

🌽 To Make Homemade Tostada Shells:

  • Brush corn tortillas lightly with oil.

  • Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 6–8 minutes per side, or until golden and crisp.

  • OR fry them in hot oil (350°F) for 1–2 minutes per side and drain.

🔁 Customization Ideas:

  • Add sour cream or Taco Bell hot sauce packets for extra flavor.

  • Make it vegetarian by skipping the beef and adding guacamole or black beans.

  • Add pickled jalapeños or onions for a kick.
