Swedish Meatball Noodle Bake is the ultimate comfort food fusion — creamy, savory Swedish meatballs baked into a cozy noodle casserole. Here’s a full recipe breakdown for this hearty dish:

🇸🇪🍝 Swedish Meatball Noodle Bake

Serves: 6–8
Prep time: 20 min | Cook time: 40 min | Total: ~1 hour

🧾 Ingredients:

For the Meatballs:

  • 1 lb ground beef (or ½ beef + ½ pork)

  • ½ cup breadcrumbs

  • ¼ cup milk

  • 1 egg

  • ½ tsp allspice

  • ½ tsp nutmeg

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • Salt & pepper to taste

For the Bake:

  • 12 oz egg noodles

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • 2 tbsp flour

  • 2 cups beef broth

  • 1 cup sour cream

  • ½ cup heavy cream (or milk)

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard (optional)

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella or Swiss cheese

  • Chopped parsley for garnish

👨‍🍳 Instructions:

1. Make the Meatballs:

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).

  • In a bowl, soak breadcrumbs in milk for 2 minutes. Add the rest of the meatball ingredients and mix well.

  • Roll into 1-inch balls and place on a baking sheet.

  • Bake for 15–18 minutes, until browned and cooked through.

2. Cook the Noodles:

  • While meatballs bake, boil egg noodles according to package directions. Drain and set aside.

3. Make the Sauce:

  • In a large skillet or saucepan, melt butter. Whisk in flour to make a roux.

  • Slowly add beef broth, whisking until smooth.

  • Stir in sour cream, heavy cream, Worcestershire, and mustard. Simmer 3–4 minutes until thickened.

  • Season with salt and pepper.

4. Assemble the Bake:

  • In a large bowl, combine cooked noodles, meatballs, and sauce.

  • Pour into a greased 9×13” baking dish. Top with shredded cheese.

  • Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20–25 minutes, until bubbly and golden on top.

5. Garnish & Serve:

  • Sprinkle with chopped parsley and serve warm — great with a side salad or green beans.

🔄 Variations:

  • Use frozen Swedish meatballs to save time.

  • Add sautéed mushrooms or peas to the sauce for extra depth.

  • Use gluten-free noodles and flour for a GF version.
