  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • 1/2 tsp cardamom (optional but traditional)

  • 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar

  • 2 eggs

  • 1/2 cup (115 g) unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly

  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) milk

  • 1 1/2 cups (190 g) all-purpose flour

  • 2 tsp baking powder

  • Pinch of salt

Topping (optional but great):

  • 1 tbsp sugar

  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

  • Sliced almonds or pearl sugar (optional for texture)


For the Caramel Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup (100 g) brown sugar

  • 1/4 cup (60 g) unsalted butter

  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) heavy cream

  • Pinch of salt

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract


🧁 Instructions

1. Prep Apples:

  • Toss sliced apples with lemon juice, cinnamon, and cardamom. Set aside.

2. Make the Batter:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round or square pan (springform pan works best).

  • In a large bowl, beat eggs and sugar until light and fluffy.

  • Stir in melted butter and milk.

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

  • Fold dry ingredients into the wet until just combined (don’t overmix).

3. Assemble the Cake:

  • Pour batter into prepared pan.

  • Gently press the apple slices into the top of the batter in a circular or scattered pattern.

  • Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar topping and almonds or pearl sugar if using.

4. Bake:

  • Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean and the top is golden brown.


5. Make the Caramel Sauce:

  • While cake bakes, combine brown sugar, butter, and cream in a small saucepan over medium heat.

  • Stir constantly until butter is melted and mixture bubbles gently (about 3–5 min).

  • Remove from heat, stir in vanilla and a pinch of salt.


🍽️ To Serve:

  • Serve warm or room temperature, drizzled with warm caramel sauce.

  • Optional: Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
