Sourdough toast and fried bread

Posted on June 2, 2025

Here’s a quick guide to making both sourdough toast and fried bread β€” two delicious, crispy, and satisfying ways to enjoy bread (especially for breakfast or brunch)!

🍞 Sourdough Toast

βœ… Ingredients:

  • 1–2 slices sourdough bread
  • Butter or olive oil (optional)

πŸ”₯ How to Make It:

  1. Toast It:
    • Toaster: Simply toast slices until golden brown.
    • Pan Toasted: Heat a skillet, add a touch of butter or oil, and toast each side of the sourdough for 2–3 minutes until crisp and golden.
  2. Top It (Optional):
    • Avocado + chili flakes
    • Poached egg + arugula
    • Ricotta + honey + figs
    • Jam + butter
    • Tomato + basil + olive oil

🍳 Fried Bread (Old-School British Style)

βœ… Ingredients:

  • 1–2 slices bread (white, sourdough, or your favorite)
  • Butter, oil, or bacon fat

πŸ”₯ How to Make It:

  1. Heat Fat:
Add about 1–2 tablespoons of fat to a frying pan over medium heat.
  2. Fry the Bread:
Place the bread in the hot pan and fry for 2–3 minutes per side, or until golden and crispy.
  3. Drain & Serve:
Remove and place on a paper towel to absorb excess oil. Serve warm.

🍽 Perfect Pairings:

  • Serve fried bread with a full English breakfast (eggs, sausage, beans).
  • Pair sourdough toast with soups, salads, or topped with anything from hummus to mushrooms.

Would you like a sweet version (like cinnamon sugar fried bread)?
