Soft Fluffy Dinner Rolls Soft Fluffy Dinner Rolls

Posted on June 21, 2025
Here’s a recipe for Soft & Fluffy Dinner Rolls — perfect as a side for any meal or for making small sandwiches. These rolls are pillowy, buttery, and lightly sweet, much like classic milk bread or Hawaiian-style rolls.

🥖 Soft & Fluffy Dinner Rolls (12 Rolls)

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (240 ml) warm milk (about 40°C / 105°F)

  • 2¼ tsp (1 packet or 7 g) active dry yeast

  • 2 tbsp (25 g) granulated sugar

  • 3 tbsp (45 g) unsalted butter, melted (plus more for brushing)

  • 1 large egg

  • 3 to 3½ cups (360–420 g) all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp salt

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

  1. Activate the Yeast:

    • In a bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast.

    • Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.

  2. Make the Dough:

    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the yeast mixture, melted butter, egg, and salt.

    • Gradually add flour (start with 3 cups), mixing until a soft dough forms.

    • Knead for 8–10 minutes by hand or with a dough hook, adding more flour if sticky. The dough should be soft and slightly tacky, not dry.

  3. First Rise:

    • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours or until doubled in size.

  4. Shape the Rolls:

    • Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces.

    • Shape each into a ball and place in a greased 9×13 inch (23×33 cm) baking dish.

  5. Second Rise:

    • Cover loosely with a towel or plastic wrap and let rise again for 30–45 minutes until puffy.

  6. Bake:

    • Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).

    • Bake rolls for 20–25 minutes or until golden brown on top.

  7. Finish:

    • Brush warm rolls with melted butter for extra softness and shine.

💡 Tips:

  • For extra softness, substitute some of the all-purpose flour with bread flour.

  • Add a splash of honey with the sugar for a touch of sweetness.

  • Want a golden top? Brush with an egg wash (1 egg + 1 tbsp water) before baking.

Would you like this in printable form or want to scale it for a bigger group (e.g. 24 or 36 rolls)?
