Here’s a Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak recipe that’s easy to make and so comforting! It’s a perfect dish with tender beef patties in a rich, savory gravy.
Ingredients:
For the Salisbury Steaks:
- 1 1/2 lbs ground beef (85% lean is ideal)
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs (preferably whole wheat for a healthier option)
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1 small onion, finely chopped (divided)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (for browning the steaks)
For the Gravy:
- 1 can (10.5 oz) beef broth
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce (optional, for extra depth)
- 1 tablespoon ketchup (optional, for sweetness)
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
- 2 tablespoons water (to mix with cornstarch)
Instructions:
1. Make the Salisbury Steaks:
- In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, 1/2 of the chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
- Form the mixture into 4-6 oval-shaped patties, depending on your preferred size.
2. Brown the Patties:
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the patties to the skillet and brown them on both sides for about 3-4 minutes per side (they don’t need to be cooked through, just browned). Once browned, transfer the patties to the slow cooker.
3. Make the Gravy:
- In the same skillet, add the remaining chopped onion and sauté for 2-3 minutes until softened.
- Add the beef broth, water, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce (if using), ketchup (if using), onion powder, garlic powder, and pepper to the skillet. Stir to combine, and bring to a simmer.
- Pour the gravy mixture over the patties in the slow cooker.
4. Cook in the Slow Cooker:
- Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 4-5 hours or high for 2-3 hours, until the patties are cooked through and tender.
5. Optional – Thicken the Gravy:
- If you prefer a thicker gravy, mix 2 tablespoons of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water to make a slurry.
- After the cooking time is up, transfer the gravy to a saucepan and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Slowly add the cornstarch slurry and whisk until the gravy thickens to your desired consistency.
6. Serve:
- Serve the Salisbury steaks with the gravy over mashed potatoes, rice, or even noodles. A side of veggies would be perfect for a complete meal!
This slow cooker Salisbury steak is super easy to make and gives you a delicious, comforting meal without much fuss. Enjoy! 😋
