Sliced Baked Potatoes

Here’s a classic and easy recipe for Sliced Baked Potatoes—crispy on the edges, soft inside, and loaded with flavor. Sometimes called Hasselback Potatoes, these look impressive but are surprisingly simple to make.


🥔 Sliced Baked Potatoes (Hasselback Style)

🍽️ Serves: 4

⏰ Prep Time: 10 minutes

⏱️ Cook Time: 45–60 minutes

🔥 Oven Temp: 425°F (220°C)


🧄 Ingredients

  • 4 medium russet or Yukon gold potatoes

  • 2–3 tbsp olive oil or melted butter

  • 2–3 cloves garlic, minced

  • Salt & black pepper, to taste

  • 1/2 tsp paprika or dried herbs (thyme, rosemary, oregano – optional)

  • Grated Parmesan, cheddar, or mozzarella (optional)

  • Fresh parsley or chives, for garnish


👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven
    Set oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment or foil.

  2. Prep the Potatoes
    Wash and dry potatoes thoroughly. Leave the skins on.

  3. Slice Hasselback-Style
    Place each potato between two wooden spoons or chopsticks.
    Slice thin slits (about 1/8 to 1/4 inch apart) across the potato, stopping just before you cut all the way through. The spoons help prevent slicing too deep.

  4. Season
    Mix oil or butter with garlic, salt, pepper, and optional paprika/herbs.
    Brush mixture generously over and inside the potato slices.

  5. Bake
    Place on baking sheet and bake for 45–60 minutes, depending on size.
    Baste with more oil/butter halfway through. Potatoes are done when the edges are crispy and the center is fork-tender.

  6. Add Toppings (Optional)

    • Sprinkle cheese over the top in the last 5 minutes of baking for a melty finish.

    • Garnish with chopped herbs after baking.


✅ Variations

  • Loaded version: Top with sour cream, bacon bits, chives, and cheese.

  • Garlic-Parmesan: Mix finely grated Parm into the butter/oil mixture.

  • Spicy: Add a pinch of cayenne or chili flakes to the seasoning.
