Reverse White Hair Naturally with Just Two Ingredients: Garlic and Clove

Posted on March 1, 2025
The idea of using garlic and clove to reverse white hair naturally has been circulating in the natural health community, with some people claiming that these ingredients can help restore the natural color of your hair due to their purported properties. However, it’s important to note that there is limited scientific evidence to fully support the claim that garlic and clove can reverse gray or white hair.

That said, both garlic and cloves have beneficial properties for hair health that might contribute to overall scalp health, hair growth, and strengthening. Let’s break it down:

Garlic and Clove for Hair Health

  1. Garlic:

    • Garlic contains allicin, a sulfur compound, which is thought to promote circulation to the scalp, improve hair growth, and reduce hair thinning.
    • It also has antibacterial and antifungal properties that can help keep the scalp clean and healthy.
    • Garlic is rich in vitamin B6 and selenium, both of which are essential for healthy hair.
  2. Clove:

    • Cloves are rich in eugenol, a compound that is believed to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. This can help improve blood circulation to the scalp, encouraging healthy hair growth.
    • Cloves are also said to be rich in vitamin C, which plays a role in collagen production, helping to keep hair strong and resilient.
    • Some people believe that cloves can help darken hair, but there’s no conclusive evidence to prove this.

How to Use Garlic and Clove for Hair Health

Here’s a simple DIY remedy that some people use to nourish hair and potentially reduce graying over time:

Garlic and Clove Hair Oil

Ingredients:
  • 5-6 cloves of garlic (fresh or in oil form)
  • 1 tablespoon of whole cloves
  • 2 tablespoons of coconut oil (or olive oil)
Instructions:
  1. Crush the Garlic:

    • Crush or chop the garlic cloves to release the allicin. If you’re using garlic oil, just use a few drops.
  2. Heat the Oil:

    • In a small saucepan, heat the coconut oil on low heat.
    • Add the whole cloves and garlic to the oil. Allow them to infuse in the oil for 10-15 minutes. The oil should not be too hot; just warm enough to release the garlic’s benefits.
  3. Cool and Strain:

    • After 10-15 minutes, remove the oil from the heat and let it cool.
    • Strain out the garlic and cloves, leaving just the infused oil.
  4. Massage into the Scalp:

    • Once the oil is cool, gently massage it into your scalp for 5-10 minutes. Focus on the areas where you have white or gray hair.
    • Leave the oil on for at least 30 minutes (or overnight if you can).
  5. Wash Out:

    • Shampoo your hair to remove the oil.

How Often to Use:

  • You can do this treatment 2-3 times a week to promote scalp health and improve circulation. Over time, you might notice stronger, shinier hair, though reversing gray hair is not guaranteed.

Do Garlic and Clove Really Reverse Gray Hair?

While both ingredients are great for your hair’s health and can improve its strength and shine, the idea of reversing white or gray hair naturally with these ingredients is more anecdotal than scientifically proven. Graying hair is primarily caused by the loss of melanin (the pigment responsible for color), which typically happens due to aging or genetics. Once hair turns gray, it’s unlikely that it will go back to its original color through topical treatments alone.

That said, taking good care of your scalp, promoting hair growth, and keeping it nourished can help slow down the process and give your hair a healthier appearance. If you want to combat gray hair from the inside, a balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals—like vitamin B12, folate, biotin, and copper—can help.

Would you be willing to try this remedy, or do you have any other natural hair care ideas in mind?
