Here’s a simple method for making perfect poached eggs:


🥚 Ingredients:

  • Fresh eggs (the fresher, the better!)

  • Water

  • A splash of vinegar (optional, helps the whites set faster)


🍳 Instructions:

  1. Boil the Water:

    • Fill a saucepan or shallow pan with about 3 inches of water.

    • Heat until it just starts to boil, then reduce to a gentle simmer (small bubbles, not a rolling boil).

  2. Crack the Egg:

    • Crack the egg into a small bowl or ramekin — this makes it easier to slide it into the water gently.

  3. (Optional) Add Vinegar:

    • Add 1 tsp of white vinegar to the water (helps the egg whites coagulate faster and neater).

  4. Create a Gentle Swirl (optional for one egg):

    • Stir the water in a circle to create a vortex — this helps the egg white wrap around itself for a neat shape.

  5. Slide in the Egg:

    • Gently slide the egg into the center of the pan.

  6. Cook:

    • Let it poach for 2.5 to 4 minutes, depending on your desired doneness.

      • ~2.5 minutes: very soft

      • ~3 minutes: softly set white, runny yolk

      • ~4 minutes: more firm white, soft yolk

  7. Remove:

    • Use a slotted spoon to carefully lift the egg out.

    • Dab on a paper towel to remove excess water.


🧂 Serve With:

  • Toast or English muffin

  • Avocado

  • Hollandaise (for eggs Benedict)

  • Sauteed greens or smoked salmon
