Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls

Posted on May 31, 2025
Here’s a crowd-pleasing fusion dish: Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls — crispy on the outside, melty and savory on the inside. Perfect as an appetizer, party snack, or even a fun dinner idea.

🥩 Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls

Ingredients (makes about 10 egg rolls):

Filling:

  • 1/2 lb ribeye steak or deli roast beef, thinly sliced (or shaved beef)

  • 1 tbsp oil or butter

  • 1/2 green bell pepper, finely diced

  • 1/2 small onion, finely diced

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 cup shredded provolone or mozzarella (or a combo)

  • Optional: Cheez Whiz (for an authentic twist)

Other:

  • 10 egg roll wrappers

  • 1 egg (beaten, for sealing)

  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)

🔧 Instructions:

1. Cook the filling:

  • In a skillet, heat oil over medium heat.

  • Sauté onions and peppers until soft (about 4–5 minutes).

  • Add sliced beef, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Cook until beef is just done.

  • Remove from heat, stir in cheese (or set aside cheese to add during rolling for gooier texture).

  • Let the mixture cool slightly.

2. Assemble the egg rolls:

  • Place a wrapper in a diamond shape in front of you.

  • Spoon about 2–3 tablespoons of filling near the bottom third.

  • Fold up the bottom point, then fold in sides, and roll tightly.

  • Seal edge with beaten egg. Repeat for all.

3. Fry until golden:

  • Heat oil to 350°F (175°C) in a deep skillet or fryer.

  • Fry egg rolls in batches, 3–4 minutes per side, until golden and crispy.

  • Drain on paper towels and let cool slightly before serving.

🥣 Dipping Sauce Ideas:

  • Spicy mayo or chipotle aioli

  • Cheese sauce or warm Cheez Whiz

  • Garlic ranch or horseradish dip

🔁 Variations:

  • Use ground beef for a budget version

  • Swap in mushrooms for a meatless take

  • Make it in an air fryer (400°F for ~8–10 min, flipping halfway)
