🥪 Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes
Ingredients:
-
1 lb (450 g) ground beef
-
1 tbsp olive oil (optional if beef is lean)
-
1 small onion, finely chopped
-
1 green bell pepper, chopped
-
1 clove garlic, minced
-
Salt & pepper to taste
-
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
-
½ cup beef broth
-
1 tbsp ketchup (optional, adds a touch of sweetness)
-
1 tbsp cornstarch + 1 tbsp water (optional, for thickening)
-
4–6 hamburger buns or hoagie rolls
Cheese Options (pick one or combine):
-
6 slices provolone cheese
-
OR 1 cup shredded mozzarella
-
OR 6 slices American cheese
Instructions:
-
Cook the Beef & Veggies:
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook ground beef until browned. Drain excess grease if needed.
Add onion, green pepper, and garlic. Sauté until vegetables are tender, about 5 minutes. -
Flavor It:
Stir in Worcestershire sauce, beef broth, and ketchup (if using). Simmer for 5–7 minutes to combine flavors. -
Thicken (Optional):
If you’d like a thicker consistency, mix cornstarch with water and stir into the meat mixture. Simmer for 1–2 minutes until it thickens. -
Add the Cheese:
Reduce heat to low. Lay cheese slices over the meat, cover the skillet, and let it melt (or stir in shredded cheese until melted and gooey). -
Assemble Sloppy Joes:
Toast buns or rolls if desired. Spoon the cheesy meat mixture onto each bottom half and top with the bun lid.
🔄 Variations:
-
Use ground turkey or chicken instead of beef for a leaner option.
-
Add mushrooms for an authentic Philly feel.
-
Swap bell pepper for red or poblano if you like a kick.
