Making perfectly mini doughnuts at home is easier than you think, and they are incredibly fun to make! You’ll get a batch of little, soft, sweet doughnuts that are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside—just like the ones you’d get from a doughnut shop. Plus, you can customize them with glazes, sugar coatings, or fillings!

Here’s how you can make mini doughnuts that are perfectly fluffy and delicious:

Ingredients:

For the doughnuts:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg (optional, but adds a classic doughnut flavor)
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk (or regular milk if you don’t have buttermilk)
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil (for greasing the doughnut pan)

For the cinnamon-sugar coating (optional but delicious):

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon

For the glaze (optional):

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a mini doughnut pan with a little bit of vegetable oil or non-stick spray to prevent sticking.

  2. Make the doughnut batter:

    • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg (if using).
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
    • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. The batter should be thick but smooth. Do not overmix to ensure fluffy doughnuts.
  3. Fill the doughnut pan:

    • Spoon or pipe the batter into the mini doughnut pan, filling each well about 3/4 full. If using a piping bag, it’s much easier to pipe the batter into the wells for a clean, neat result.
  4. Bake the doughnuts:

    • Bake the doughnuts in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean and the tops are lightly golden.
    • Let the doughnuts cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  5. Optional coating (cinnamon-sugar):

    • While the doughnuts are still warm, mix the sugar and cinnamon together in a small bowl.
    • Roll the doughnuts in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until they’re coated evenly. This gives them a classic doughnut shop vibe.
  6. Optional glaze:

    • If you prefer a sweet glaze, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a bowl until smooth.
    • Dip the tops of the cooled doughnuts into the glaze, allowing any excess to drip off. Let them sit for a few minutes to set.

Tips & Variations:

  • Flavor variations: Add chocolate chips, crushed nuts, or fresh fruit (like berries) into the batter for a fun twist.
  • Air fryer option: If you prefer to use an air fryer, you can bake the doughnuts in batches at 350°F for about 6-8 minutes.
  • Fillings: Want filled doughnuts? You can pipe in some chocolate ganache or jam after baking for a fun surprise!
  • No doughnut pan?: You can make doughnut holes by rolling the batter into small balls and baking them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
