🥣 Directions

1. Make the Fry Bread:

  1. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

  2. Add warm water gradually and mix until a dough forms. Knead lightly until smooth.

  3. Divide into 4–6 pieces. Roll or pat each piece into a 6–8 inch circle.

  4. Heat 1–2 inches of oil in a deep skillet over medium heat.

  5. Fry each dough circle until golden brown and puffed, about 2 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.

2. Cook the Taco Meat:

  1. In a skillet, sauté onion and garlic in a little oil until soft.

  2. Add ground meat, season with salt, pepper, cumin, and chili powder. Cook until browned.

  3. Stir in beans and cook until heated through. Set aside.

3. Prepare the Green Chile Sauce:

  1. In a saucepan, melt butter or heat oil, then whisk in the flour to make a roux.

  2. Slowly whisk in broth and cook until slightly thickened.

  3. Add green chile, season with salt and garlic powder, and simmer for 5–10 minutes.

4. Assemble the Navajo Tacos:

  1. Place fry bread on a plate.

  2. Spoon on taco meat and beans.

  3. Drizzle generously with green chile sauce.

  4. Top with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, sour cream, and other toppings of choice.
