Posted on February 26, 2025

Loaded Sweet Potato Fries with Chipotle Lime Crema sound absolutely irresistible! The sweet and savory combo of crispy fries topped with flavorful toppings, and then drizzled with creamy, smoky chipotle lime sauce, is next-level. Here’s how you can make them at home:

Loaded Sweet Potato Fries with Chipotle Lime Crema Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Sweet Potato Fries:

  • 3 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into fries (about 1/4-inch thick)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika (or regular paprika)
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Chipotle Lime Crema:

  • 1/2 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • 1 tbsp mayonnaise (optional for extra creaminess)
  • 1-2 chipotle peppers in adobo sauce (depending on how spicy you want it), chopped
  • 1 tbsp lime juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1/2 tsp lime zest (optional, for extra lime flavor)
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • Pinch of salt

Toppings:

  • 1/2 cup crumbled feta or cotija cheese (or any cheese you prefer)
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 2 tbsp green onions, sliced
  • 1/4 cup sliced jalapeños (optional for extra heat)
  • 1/4 cup chopped avocado (optional for extra creaminess)

Directions:

1. Prepare the Sweet Potato Fries:

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or foil.
  2. Peel the sweet potatoes and cut them into fries (you can use a mandoline slicer or do it by hand). Try to make them as even as possible so they cook evenly.
  3. Place the fries in a large bowl, and toss them with olive oil, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne (if using), salt, and pepper.
  4. Spread the fries in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. For extra crispiness, make sure the fries aren’t overcrowded (you might need two sheets if you have a lot of fries).
  5. Bake for 25-30 minutes, flipping the fries halfway through, until they’re golden and crispy.

2. Make the Chipotle Lime Crema:

  1. In a small bowl, combine the sour cream (or Greek yogurt), mayonnaise (if using), chopped chipotle peppers, lime juice, lime zest (if using), garlic powder, and a pinch of salt.
  2. Stir well to combine. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed—add more chipotle for heat, more lime for brightness, or a little extra salt if it needs more flavor.
  3. Refrigerate the crema until ready to serve to let the flavors meld together.

3. Assemble the Loaded Fries:

  1. Once the sweet potato fries are done, remove them from the oven and transfer them to a serving plate or platter.
  2. Drizzle the chipotle lime crema generously over the fries.
  3. Sprinkle crumbled feta or cotija cheese on top, followed by chopped cilantro, sliced green onions, jalapeños (if using), and avocado (if using).
  4. You can add a squeeze of fresh lime juice over the top for an extra burst of flavor.

4. Serve and Enjoy:

Serve your loaded sweet potato fries immediately, with extra crema on the side if desired. These fries are perfect for sharing as a snack, appetizer, or even as a side dish to a main meal!

Tips:

  • Crispy Fries: To ensure crispy fries, make sure to spread them in a single layer on the baking sheet and avoid overcrowding. Also, flipping them halfway through helps get all sides nice and crispy.
  • Spice Level: Adjust the number of chipotle peppers in the crema depending on your tolerance for spice. If you prefer a milder version, start with just one chipotle and taste test.
  • Customize: Feel free to top the fries with other additions, like bacon crumbles, a fried egg (for a brunch version!), or even a drizzle of hot sauce if you like some extra kick.

These Loaded Sweet Potato Fries with Chipotle Lime Crema are packed with flavor and texture—crispy, creamy, tangy, and smoky all in one bite! Are you planning to serve them as a side for a meal, or maybe as a game-day snack or party appetizer?
