Layered Chocolate Cake with Creamy

Posted on January 29, 2025

Here’s a rich and decadent recipe for a Layered Chocolate Cake with Creamy Frosting! The combination of moist chocolate cake layers and smooth, creamy frosting makes this dessert a real crowd-pleaser. It’s perfect for birthdays, celebrations, or whenever you’re craving something chocolatey and indulgent.

Ingredients:

For the Chocolate Cake:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk (or buttermilk for a richer flavor)
  • ½ cup vegetable oil (or melted butter)
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water (or hot coffee for a deeper flavor)

For the Creamy Frosting:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup heavy cream (more if needed)
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions:

For the Cake:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans, or line the bottoms with parchment paper.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients:
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  3. Add the wet ingredients:
Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until the batter is smooth.
  4. Add the boiling water (or hot coffee):
Gradually add the boiling water or hot coffee to the batter. The batter will be thin, but that’s okay—it’s supposed to be this way!
  5. Bake the cake:
Pour the batter evenly into the two prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool the cakes:
Let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes. Then, remove the cakes from the pans and transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

For the Creamy Frosting:

  1. Beat the butter:
In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until smooth and creamy (about 2-3 minutes).
  2. Add the dry ingredients:
Gradually add the powdered sugar and cocoa powder, mixing on low speed until combined. Then increase the speed and beat until smooth.
  3. Add the vanilla and cream:
Add the vanilla extract, salt, and heavy cream. Continue to beat until the frosting is smooth, fluffy, and easy to spread. If the frosting is too thick, add more heavy cream, one tablespoon at a time, until you reach your desired consistency.

Assembling the Cake:

  1. Layer the cake:
Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer of the cake on a serving platter or cake stand. Spread a generous amount of frosting on top.
  2. Add the second layer:
Place the second cake layer on top of the first and spread frosting over the top and sides of the entire cake.
  3. Decorate (optional):
You can garnish the cake with chocolate shavings, sprinkles, or even fresh berries, if desired.

Enjoy!

This layered chocolate cake is rich, moist, and perfect for chocolate lovers. The creamy frosting adds a delicious touch of sweetness that complements the deep chocolate flavor of the cake. It’s a showstopper dessert that’s sure to impress!
