🧈 Kentucky Butter Cake
Ingredients
For the Cake:
-
3 cups all-purpose flour
-
1 tsp baking powder
-
1/2 tsp baking soda
-
1 tsp salt
-
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
-
2 cups granulated sugar
-
4 large eggs
-
1 tbsp vanilla extract
-
1 cup buttermilk
For the Butter Sauce:
-
3/4 cup granulated sugar
-
1/3 cup unsalted butter
-
3 tbsp water
-
2 tsp vanilla extract
🥣 Instructions
1. Preheat & Prepare Pan:
-
Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C).
-
Grease and flour a 10-inch Bundt pan thoroughly (or use baking spray with flour).
2. Make the Cake Batter:
-
In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
-
In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 3-5 minutes).
-
Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each.
-
Mix in vanilla.
-
Alternate adding flour mixture and buttermilk, beginning and ending with the flour. Do not overmix.
3. Bake:
-
Pour batter into prepared Bundt pan.
-
Bake for 60–70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
4. Make the Butter Sauce (While Cake Bakes):
-
In a saucepan, combine sugar, butter, and water. Cook over medium heat until butter is melted and sugar is mostly dissolved (do not boil).
-
Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
5. Soak & Cool:
-
While the cake is still warm and in the pan, poke holes all over with a skewer or thin knife.
-
Slowly pour the warm butter sauce over the cake, allowing it to soak in.
-
Let the cake cool completely in the pan before inverting onto a plate.
🍰 Serving Tips:
-
Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
-
Even better the next day after the glaze fully soaks in.
-
Serve with fresh berries or whipped cream.
Would you like a version with a citrus twist or a chocolate glaze instead?
