Italian Affogato Recipe

Here’s a classic Italian Affogato recipe — simple, elegant, and delicious.


🇮🇹 Classic Italian Affogato

Ingredients (Serves 1):

  • 1 scoop of vanilla gelato (or high-quality vanilla ice cream)

  • 1 shot (about 1 oz or 30 ml) of freshly brewed hot espresso

Optional toppings:

  • Shaved dark chocolate or cocoa powder

  • Crushed biscotti or amaretti

  • A splash of liqueur (e.g., Frangelico, Amaretto, or Kahlúa)


Instructions:

  1. Chill the serving glass (a small bowl, espresso cup, or dessert glass) for 10–15 minutes in the freezer.

  2. Place 1 generous scoop of vanilla gelato into the chilled glass.

  3. Brew a fresh shot of espresso (strong and hot).

  4. Pour the hot espresso directly over the gelato.

  5. Serve immediately with a small spoon and enjoy before it melts!


☕️ Tips:

  • Use gelato for a more authentic Italian texture (creamier and denser than ice cream).

  • Want to impress? Garnish with a small biscotto on the side or dust with cocoa powder.

  • For a boozy twist, try 1/2 oz of liqueur added to the espresso before pouring.
