Here’s a delicious and easy Homemade Hamburger, Peppers, and Onion Gyros recipe you can try! This twist on a classic Greek gyro uses seasoned ground beef and sautéed vegetables, all wrapped in warm pita bread.


🍔 Homemade Hamburger, Peppers & Onion Gyros

📝 Ingredients:

For the beef:

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp ground cumin

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika

  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano

  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the veggies:

  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced

  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced

  • 1 yellow onion, sliced

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the gyro assembly:

  • 4-6 pita or flatbreads (warmed)

  • Tzatziki sauce (store-bought or homemade — recipe below)

  • Crumbled feta cheese (optional)

  • Chopped fresh parsley (optional)


🍳 Instructions:

  1. Cook the Beef:

    • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned.

    • Add garlic, cumin, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir well and cook another 2-3 minutes until fragrant.

    • Drain any excess grease and set aside.

  2. Sauté the Veggies:

    • In the same skillet, add olive oil and sauté onions and peppers over medium heat until tender and slightly caramelized (about 8–10 minutes). Season with salt and pepper.

  3. Assemble the Gyros:

    • Warm pita bread (either in a pan, oven, or microwave wrapped in a damp towel).

    • Spread tzatziki sauce on each pita.

    • Add a generous spoonful of the seasoned ground beef.

    • Top with sautéed peppers and onions.

    • Sprinkle with feta and parsley, if using.

    • Fold and serve immediately.


🥣 Quick Homemade Tzatziki Sauce (optional):

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt

  • 1/2 cucumber, grated and squeezed to remove excess water

  • 1 clove garlic, minced

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 tsp lemon juice

  • Salt to taste

  • Fresh dill (optional)

Instructions:

  • Mix all ingredients in a bowl and chill for at least 15 minutes before serving.
