Homemade Cheesy Garlic Breadsticks

Oh, cheesy garlic breadsticks? Yes please! 🧄🧀 Soft, buttery, loaded with garlic and ooey-gooey cheese — perfect as a side or snack. Here’s a simple homemade recipe that’s crispy on the outside, fluffy inside, and irresistible.


🥖 Homemade Cheesy Garlic Breadsticks

🕒 Total Time: ~1 hour (includes rising)

🍽️ Makes: About 12 breadsticks


🧾 Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)

  • 1 cup warm water (about 110°F/43°C)

  • 1 tbsp sugar

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

For the Topping:

  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 ½ cups mozzarella cheese, shredded

  • ½ cup parmesan cheese, grated

  • 1 tsp dried Italian seasoning or oregano

  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)

  • Salt, to taste


👩‍🍳 Instructions

1. Make the Dough

  • In a small bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.

  • In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Add yeast mixture and olive oil.

  • Stir until a rough dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 7–8 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  • Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 45–60 minutes, until doubled.

2. Preheat Oven

  • Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).

  • Lightly grease a baking sheet or line with parchment paper.

3. Shape the Breadsticks

  • Punch down the dough and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface.

  • Roll dough into a rectangle about 12×8 inches.

  • Transfer to the prepared baking sheet.

4. Add Garlic Butter & Cheese

  • Mix melted butter and minced garlic. Brush evenly over the dough.

  • Sprinkle mozzarella and parmesan cheese evenly on top.

  • Sprinkle Italian seasoning and a pinch of salt.

5. Bake

  • Bake for 12–15 minutes, until cheese is melted, bubbly, and golden around the edges.

6. Garnish & Serve

  • Remove from oven, sprinkle with chopped parsley (if using).

  • Slice into breadsticks and serve warm!


🍽️ Tips & Variations

  • Extra cheesy? Add more mozzarella or try adding shredded cheddar.

  • Spicy kick? Sprinkle red pepper flakes or drizzle with a bit of hot honey after baking.

  • Garlic lovers: Mix roasted garlic into the butter for a mellow, sweet flavor.
