Homemade apple pie

Here’s a classic recipe for a delicious, flaky Homemade Apple Pie — perfect for any season and sure to impress!


🍏 Homemade Apple Pie

Prep Time: 30 min | Bake Time: 50-60 min | Serves: 8


Ingredients

For the Pie Crust (makes 2 crusts):

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp sugar

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, cold and cut into cubes

  • 6-8 tbsp ice water

For the Filling:

  • 6-7 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix), peeled, cored, and thinly sliced

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour (for thickening)

  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter, cut into small pieces (for dotting)

For Assembly:

  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

  • 1 tbsp sugar (for sprinkling)


Instructions

1. Make the Pie Crust:

  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and sugar.

  • Cut in cold butter using a pastry cutter or fingers until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  • Gradually add ice water, 1 tbsp at a time, mixing just until dough comes together.

  • Divide dough in half, shape each into a disk, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

2. Prepare the Filling:

  • In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, lemon juice, and flour. Set aside.

3. Assemble the Pie:

  • Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).

  • Roll out one dough disk on a lightly floured surface into a 12-inch circle. Fit into a 9-inch pie pan.

  • Pour apple filling into the crust, spreading evenly. Dot with small butter pieces.

  • Roll out the second dough disk and place over the filling.

  • Trim excess dough, crimp edges to seal, and cut vents in the top crust for steam to escape.

  • Brush the top crust with beaten egg and sprinkle with sugar.

4. Bake the Pie:

  • Bake at 425°F for 15 minutes.

  • Reduce oven temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 35-45 minutes, or until crust is golden and filling is bubbly.

  • If crust browns too quickly, cover edges with foil.

5. Cool and Serve:

  • Let the pie cool at least 2 hours to set before slicing.

  • Serve warm or at room temperature, optionally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
