Here’s a classic, hearty Hamburger Potato Casserole recipe that’s perfect for a cozy family dinner. It’s simple, satisfying, and budget-friendly!


Hamburger Potato Casserole Recipe

🍽️ Servings: 6-8


Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1 small onion, diced

  • 4 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced

  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup (or cream of chicken)

  • 1/2 cup milk

  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Optional: garlic powder, paprika, parsley, or Italian seasoning

  • Optional: 1/2 cup sour cream or cream cheese (for extra creaminess)


Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Brown the beef: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and diced onion until beef is no longer pink. Drain excess grease. Season with salt, pepper, and optional garlic powder or paprika.

  3. Prepare the sauce: In a bowl, mix the cream of mushroom soup with milk (and sour cream or cream cheese, if using).

  4. Assemble the casserole:

    • Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

    • Layer half the sliced potatoes on the bottom.

    • Spread half the beef mixture over the potatoes.

    • Pour half the soup mixture over the top.

    • Repeat layers.

    • Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over the top.

  5. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.

  6. Uncover and bake for another 15 minutes, until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden and bubbly.

  7. Rest 5-10 minutes before serving.


Optional Add-ins:

  • Frozen peas or corn

  • Sautéed mushrooms

  • Diced bell peppers

  • Crushed Ritz crackers or fried onions on top for a crunchy finish
