Here’s a Green Chile Cheese Bread recipe that’s loaded with flavor, featuring roasted green chiles and gooey cheese baked into a soft, golden loaf. Great as a side, sandwich base, or standalone snack.


🌶️ Green Chile Cheese Bread Recipe

🧂 Ingredients:

Dry:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour

  • 2 tsp sugar

  • 2¼ tsp instant yeast (1 packet)

  • 1 tsp salt

Wet:

  • 1 cup warm water (about 110°F / 43°C)

  • 2 tbsp olive oil or melted butter

Add-ins:

  • 1 cup chopped roasted green chiles (Hatch or Anaheim preferred; mild or spicy as desired)

  • 1½ to 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, Monterey Jack, pepper jack, or a mix)


🥣 Instructions:

  1. Mix Dough:

    • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.

    • Add warm water and olive oil. Stir until a rough dough forms.

    • Knead on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes (or use a mixer with a dough hook for 5–6 minutes) until smooth and elastic.

  2. First Rise:

    • Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic or a towel, and let rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours, or until doubled.

  3. Add Chiles and Cheese:

    • Punch down the dough. Flatten it slightly and spread out green chiles and cheese.

    • Knead gently just until evenly incorporated. (Don’t overmix or the dough will tear.)

  4. Shape & Final Rise:

    • Shape into a round or oblong loaf and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet or in a greased loaf pan.

    • Cover and let rise again for 30–45 minutes.

  5. Bake:

    • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

    • Optional: Sprinkle more cheese on top.

    • Bake 30–35 minutes, or until golden brown and internal temp reaches ~190°F (88°C).

  6. Cool & Serve:

    • Let cool at least 15–20 minutes before slicing.


🔄 Variations:

  • Use whole wheat flour for a hearty twist.

  • Add cooked bacon, jalapeños, or caramelized onions for extra punch.

  • Turn it into rolls or muffins for individual servings.
