Garlic and Butter Flatbread is a simple, savory, and delicious bread that’s perfect as a side dish, snack, or appetizer. With a crispy crust, soft inside, and the rich flavor of garlic and butter, it’s a crowd-pleaser every time! Here’s how to make it:

Garlic and Butter Flatbread Recipe

Ingredients:

  • For the Dough:

    • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
    • 1 teaspoon sugar
    • 1 1/4 cups warm water (about 110°F)
    • 3 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 2 tablespoons olive oil (plus extra for greasing)
  • For the Garlic Butter:

    • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
    • 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley (chopped, optional)
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional, for extra flavor)
    • 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for added richness)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Dough:

  1. In a small bowl, combine the warm water and sugar, then sprinkle the yeast over the top. Stir gently and let it sit for 5-10 minutes, or until it becomes frothy. If the yeast doesn’t bubble up, it may be expired—try again with fresh yeast.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center.

  3. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the flour mixture, stirring until a dough forms.

  4. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, sprinkle in a little more flour as needed.

  5. Grease a large bowl with a bit of olive oil, place the dough in the bowl, and cover it with a clean kitchen towel. Let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours, or until it doubles in size.

2. Prepare the Garlic Butter:

  1. While the dough is rising, melt the butter in a small saucepan over low heat.

  2. Once melted, stir in the minced garlic, salt, and garlic powder (if using). Let the garlic infuse the butter on low heat for about 1-2 minutes, then remove from heat.

  3. Stir in the chopped parsley and set the garlic butter aside to cool slightly.

3. Shape the Flatbreads:

  1. Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air and divide it into 4 equal portions (for smaller flatbreads) or 2 portions (for larger flatbreads).

  2. Roll each portion of dough into a ball and let it rest for about 10 minutes.

  3. Roll each dough ball into a thin oval or round shape on a lightly floured surface. Aim for about 1/4 inch thickness, but you can adjust based on your preference.

4. Cook the Flatbreads:

  1. Heat a cast-iron skillet or non-stick pan over medium-high heat. You don’t need oil in the pan.

  2. Once the pan is hot, place one piece of dough in the pan. Cook for about 1-2 minutes on the first side until bubbles form and the underside is golden brown.

  3. Flip the flatbread over and cook the other side for another 1-2 minutes until golden and cooked through.

  4. Remove the flatbread from the pan and immediately brush it with the prepared garlic butter.

5. Serve:

  • Serve the garlic butter flatbreads warm, and garnish with extra fresh parsley or a light sprinkle of Parmesan cheese if desired.
  • You can also serve with a side of yogurt or hummus for dipping.

Tips:

  • Make it extra cheesy: Before cooking the flatbread, sprinkle some mozzarella or Parmesan cheese on top for a cheesy garlic flatbread.
  • Add a bit of heat: For a spicy kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the garlic butter mixture.
  • Storage: These flatbreads are best enjoyed fresh, but you can store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2-3 days. Reheat in the oven or on a skillet to bring back the crispness.

This Garlic and Butter Flatbread is simple to make, full of flavor, and makes the perfect side dish to pair with just about any meal. It’s especially great with pasta, soups, or grilled meats. Enjoy!
