Fried Rice

Here’s a simple and delicious fried rice recipe you can make at home!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups cooked rice (preferably day-old rice for better texture)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (or any oil of your choice)
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas and carrots (or any vegetables you prefer)
  • 2-3 tablespoons soy sauce (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil (optional, but adds great flavor)
  • 1-2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: Protein like chicken, shrimp, or tofu (already cooked)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Rice: If you’re using day-old rice, break it up gently with a fork to prevent clumps. Fresh rice can be used, but make sure it’s cooled down.
  2. Cook the Eggs: Heat a large pan or wok over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Pour in the beaten eggs and scramble until fully cooked. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  3. Sauté the Vegetables: In the same pan, add another tablespoon of oil. Sauté the diced onion and minced garlic until fragrant and translucent (about 2-3 minutes).
  4. Add the Veggies: Toss in the frozen peas and carrots (or any veggies you’re using) and cook for another 2-3 minutes until they’re heated through.
  5. Fry the Rice: Add the cooked rice to the pan, breaking up any large clumps. Stir well to combine with the veggies.
  6. Season: Drizzle in soy sauce and sesame oil, and stir to mix. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.
  7. Add the Eggs: Toss the scrambled eggs back into the pan, breaking them into smaller pieces.
  8. Garnish: Add chopped green onions for a fresh crunch. If you’re adding protein, mix that in now.
  9. Serve: Enjoy your homemade fried rice hot!
