Egg in a Hole

Posted on August 2, 2025
Here’s a fun and classic breakfast favorite: Egg in a Hole โ€” also known as Toad in the Hole, Egg in a Basket, or One-Eyed Jack. It’s quick, satisfying, and made with just a couple of ingredients. ๐Ÿณ๐Ÿž

๐Ÿณ Egg in a Hole

๐Ÿงพ Ingredients (per serving):

  • 1 slice bread (any kind โ€” white, wheat, sourdough, brioche)

  • 1 egg

  • 1 tbsp butter (or oil)

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

๐Ÿ”ช Instructions:

  1. Cut the hole:

    • Use a small glass or biscuit cutter to cut a hole (about 2โ€“2.5 inches wide) in the center of the bread.

  2. Toast the bread:

    • Heat a skillet over medium heat and melt the butter.

    • Place the bread (and the cut-out circle if you like) into the pan.

  3. Add the egg:

    • Crack the egg into the hole. Let it cook for 1โ€“2 minutes until the whites start to set.

  4. Flip (optional):

    • Carefully flip the bread and egg with a spatula to cook the other side, about 1โ€“2 more minutes, depending on how runny you like the yolk.

  5. Season and serve:

    • Sprinkle with salt and pepper.

    • Serve with the toasted cut-out for dipping or as a crispy side!

๐Ÿ“ Optional Add-ons:

  • Grated cheese on top

  • Crumbled bacon or avocado on the side

  • Fresh herbs like chives or parsley

Want a version with a twist (like cheesy, spicy, or keto)? I can tweak it!
