For the Broth:
  • 4 cups chicken broth (or veggie broth for vegetarian)

  • 1–2 tsp soy sauce

  • 1 tsp sesame oil

  • 1 clove garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp grated ginger

  • 1–2 green onions, sliced

  • Optional: a handful of baby bok choy, mushrooms, or spinach

For the Wontons:
  • 20–24 wonton wrappers

  • Β½ lb (225g) ground pork or chicken

  • 1 green onion, finely chopped

  • 1 tsp soy sauce

  • Β½ tsp sesame oil

  • Β½ tsp grated ginger

  • Pinch of salt and pepper

1. Make the Wontons:
  1. In a bowl, mix the meat, green onion, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, salt, and pepper until combined.

  2. Place 1 tsp of filling in the center of each wonton wrapper.

  3. Moisten the edges with water, fold into a triangle (or desired shape), and press to seal tightly.

  4. Cover filled wontons with a damp towel to prevent drying.

2. Cook the Broth:
  1. In a pot, heat a bit of oil. SautΓ© ginger and garlic for 30 seconds until fragrant.

  2. Add broth, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Bring to a gentle boil.

  3. Add vegetables if using, and simmer for 3–5 minutes.

3. Cook the Wontons:
  • You can either:

    • Boil separately: In a pot of boiling water, cook wontons for 4–5 minutes until they float and the filling is cooked.

    • Cook in broth: Add directly to the simmering soup and cook for 5–6 minutes.

4. Assemble & Serve:
  • Ladle soup and wontons into bowls.

  • Garnish with sliced green onions and optional chili oil or fresh cilantro.
