🌮 Easy Homemade Flour Tortillas
Ingredients (makes 8–10 medium tortillas):
-
2 cups all-purpose flour
-
1/2 tsp salt
-
3/4 cup warm water
-
3 tbsp vegetable oil (or melted butter/lard)
🧑🍳 Instructions:
1. Mix the dough:
-
In a large bowl, combine flour and salt.
-
Add oil and warm water.
-
Stir until a shaggy dough forms, then knead for 2–3 minutes until smooth and soft. (Add a little more water or flour if needed.)
2. Rest:
-
Cover dough with a towel and let rest for 20–30 minutes — this makes it easier to roll out.
3. Divide and shape:
-
Cut dough into 8–10 equal pieces.
-
Roll each into a ball, cover again to keep them moist.
4. Roll out:
-
On a lightly floured surface, roll each ball into a thin circle (about 6–8 inches in diameter).
-
Try to keep them even, but don’t worry about perfect circles!
5. Cook:
-
Heat a dry skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
-
Cook each tortilla for 30–60 seconds per side until bubbles form and you get golden brown spots.
-
Stack cooked tortillas in a clean kitchen towel to keep them warm and soft.
✅ Tips:
-
Don’t overcook or they’ll turn crispy.
-
Store leftovers wrapped tightly at room temp for 1–2 days, or freeze for later.
-
Great for tacos, wraps, quesadillas, or even as a flatbread with hummus.
