Easy Cinnamon Apple Cobbler

Posted on February 24, 2025
An Easy Cinnamon Apple Cobbler is the perfect dessert for when you’re craving something warm, comforting, and delicious—especially when apples are in season. The cinnamon-spiced apples pair beautifully with a buttery, biscuit-like topping. It’s a quick, no-fuss dessert that comes together in just a few steps!

Here’s a simple recipe for you:

Ingredients:

For the apple filling:

  • 4-5 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work great)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch (optional, for thicker filling)

For the cobbler topping:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
  • 1/2 cup milk (or buttermilk for a richer flavor)

For serving (optional):

  • Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the apple filling:

    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin wedges or chunks. Place the sliced apples into a large mixing bowl.
    • Add the granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), lemon juice, vanilla extract, and cornstarch (if using) to the apples. Toss everything together to coat the apples evenly. Pour the apple mixture into a greased 9-inch baking dish or an oven-safe dish of similar size.
  2. Make the cobbler topping:

    • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
    • Add the cold butter cubes to the dry ingredients. Using a pastry cutter, fork, or your fingers, cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs (small pea-sized pieces of butter).
    • Pour in the milk and stir gently until just combined. Be careful not to over-mix; the batter will be lumpy, and that’s totally fine!
  3. Assemble the cobbler:

    • Spoon the cobbler topping in dollops over the apple filling. It doesn’t need to be perfectly even—some of the apples may show through. The topping will spread a little as it bakes.
  4. Bake the cobbler:

    • Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the topping comes out clean. The apples should be bubbling around the edges.
  5. Serve:

    • Let the cobbler cool for about 10 minutes before serving.
    • Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for extra indulgence!

This cinnamon apple cobbler is simple to make and perfect for any occasion. The apples get soft and caramelized, while the topping turns crisp and buttery—definitely a crowd-pleaser! You can even mix in a little caramel sauce if you want to make it extra sweet.

Do you like to add any other fruit to your cobblers, like berries or pears, or do you prefer to keep it classic with just apples?
