Here’s a bold and satisfying recipe for Dirty Rice with Ground Beef — a Louisiana-inspired dish made with ground meat, rice, and lots of flavor. It’s easy, budget-friendly, and perfect as a main or hearty side.


🍚 Dirty Rice with Ground Beef

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped

  • 2 celery stalks, chopped

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1½ cups long-grain white rice, uncooked

  • 3 cups beef broth or water

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • 1 tsp dried thyme

  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)

  • 1 tsp salt, or to taste

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • 2 tbsp oil or butter


Optional Add-ins:

  • ½ lb ground sausage or chicken livers, chopped (for traditional flavor)

  • Green onions or parsley, chopped (for garnish)


🧑‍🍳 Instructions:

  1. Cook the meat:

    • In a large skillet or Dutch oven, heat oil over medium heat.

    • Add ground beef (and sausage or liver if using) and cook until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.

  2. Sauté vegetables:

    • Add onion, bell pepper, celery, and garlic.

    • Cook 5–7 minutes until vegetables are soft and fragrant.

  3. Add rice & seasonings:

    • Stir in uncooked rice, paprika, thyme, cayenne, salt, and pepper.

    • Toast the rice for 1–2 minutes with the meat and veggies.

  4. Simmer:

    • Pour in broth or water. Bring to a boil.

    • Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 18–20 minutes, or until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed.

  5. Fluff & serve:

    • Let sit off heat for 5 minutes.

    • Fluff with a fork and garnish with chopped green onions or parsley.


🔄 Tips & Variations:

  • For extra depth, use half beef broth and half chicken broth.

  • Add a splash of hot sauce or a squeeze of lemon juice before serving.

  • Want it spicier? Add Cajun seasoning or more cayenne.
