Cucumber Salad Recipe

Here’s a simple, refreshing Cucumber Salad recipe — crisp, cool, and perfect as a summer side dish or a light snack. You can go creamy, tangy, or sweet-and-sour depending on your taste — this version is a classic vinegar-based cucumber salad, but I’ll include popular variations below!


🥒 Classic Cucumber Salad (Tangy Vinegar Style)

Ingredients:

  • 2 large cucumbers (English or Persian preferred), thinly sliced

  • ½ small red onion, thinly sliced

  • ¼ cup white vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)

  • 1 tbsp sugar (adjust to taste)

  • 1 tbsp water

  • 2 tbsp fresh dill, chopped (optional but delicious)

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ¼ tsp black pepper


🧑‍🍳 Instructions:

  1. Slice cucumbers and onion:

    • Use a mandoline or sharp knife for thin, even slices.

    • Place in a bowl and sprinkle with salt. Let sit for 15–30 minutes to draw out water (optional, but makes salad crisper). Drain excess liquid if needed.

  2. Make the dressing:

    • In a small bowl, whisk together vinegar, sugar, water, pepper, and dill (if using). Stir until sugar dissolves.

  3. Toss & chill:

    • Pour dressing over cucumbers and onions. Toss to coat evenly.

    • Chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before serving for best flavor.

  4. Serve:

    • Stir again before serving. Tastes even better the next day!


🔄 Popular Variations:

✅ Creamy Version:

  • Add ¼ cup sour cream or Greek yogurt to the dressing

  • Add a splash of white vinegar and a pinch of garlic powder

✅ Asian-Inspired Version:

  • Use rice vinegar + a splash of soy sauce + sesame oil

  • Add a pinch of sugar and red pepper flakes or sliced chilies

✅ German Style:

  • Add thinly sliced radishes and a bit of mustard to the vinaigrette

  • Often served with potatoes or schnitzel
