Copycat Long John Silver’s Batter Recipe

Posted on June 8, 2025
Here’s a Copycat Long John Silver’s Batter Recipe that closely mimics the restaurant’s signature light, crispy, golden coating—perfect for fish, chicken, or even veggies!

🍤 Copycat Long John Silver’s Batter

🕒 Prep Time: 10 minutes

🍽️ Servings: Enough for 4–6 pieces of fish or chicken

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour

  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch

  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon sugar

  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder (optional)

  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)

  • 3/4 cup cold water (or club soda for extra crispiness)

  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil)

Instructions:

  1. Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl: flour, cornstarch, baking soda, baking powder, salt, sugar, and optional spices.

  2. Add cold water or club soda gradually, whisking until smooth. The batter should be a bit thinner than pancake batter — enough to coat but not too thick.

  3. Heat oil in a deep fryer or skillet to 350°F (175°C).

  4. Dip fish or chicken pieces (patted dry) into the batter, letting excess drip off.

  5. Carefully fry in hot oil for 3–4 minutes per side (depending on thickness), until golden and crispy.

  6. Drain on paper towels and serve immediately.

✅ Tips for Best Results:

  • Use club soda instead of water for extra puffiness and crispiness.

  • Fry in batches to avoid overcrowding the oil.

  • Double-dip for an extra-thick crust: dip, fry for 30 seconds, remove, re-dip, and fry again until done.
