Classic Hamburger Hash

Here’s a simple and hearty Classic Hamburger Hash recipe — a perfect comfort food dish that’s easy to make and packed with flavor.


Classic Hamburger Hash Recipe

🕒 Prep Time: 10 minutes

🍳 Cook Time: 25 minutes

🍽️ Serves: 4


Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter

  • 1 medium onion, chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 3 medium potatoes, diced (peeled or unpeeled)

  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped (optional)

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

  • 1 teaspoon paprika (optional)

  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme or oregano

  • Fresh parsley or green onions, chopped (for garnish)


Instructions:

  1. Prep the potatoes:

    • Dice the potatoes into small cubes (so they cook faster and get crispy).

    • Optionally, parboil them in salted water for 5-6 minutes for quicker pan frying. Drain well.

  2. Cook the beef:

    • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked. Season with a little salt and pepper.

    • Remove from skillet and drain excess fat if needed. Set beef aside.

  3. Sauté the vegetables:

    • In the same skillet, heat olive oil or butter.

    • Add the chopped onion and cook 2–3 minutes.

    • Add garlic, diced potatoes, and bell pepper (if using).

    • Cook, stirring occasionally, for 10–15 minutes or until potatoes are golden and tender.

  4. Combine and season:

    • Return the cooked beef to the skillet.

    • Add paprika, thyme/oregano, and more salt and pepper to taste.

    • Stir everything together and cook for another 5 minutes to blend flavors and crisp the edges.

  5. Garnish and serve:

    • Sprinkle with chopped parsley or green onions.

    • Serve hot — great on its own or with fried eggs on top!


Optional Add-Ins:

  • Shredded cheese

  • Worcestershire sauce or hot sauce for extra flavor

  • Diced tomatoes or mushrooms
