-
1/4 tsp black pepper
-
Optional: 1/4 tsp cayenne for heat
Instructions:
-
Sauté the aromatics:
In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onion and cook 3–4 minutes until softened. Stir in garlic and cook 30 seconds more. -
Brown the beef:
Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Drain excess fat if needed. -
Add tomato paste & spices:
Stir in tomato paste, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, oregano, salt, pepper, and cayenne (if using). Cook for 1–2 minutes to bloom the spices. -
Add liquids and beans:
Pour in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and beef broth. Stir well. Add beans and bring the chili to a simmer. -
Simmer:
Reduce heat to low and let simmer uncovered for 30–45 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened and flavorful. -

Taste and adjust seasoning. If it’s too thick, add a bit more broth or water.
