Classic Cherry Delight

Posted on September 23, 2025

Classic Cherry Delight is a nostalgic, no-bake dessert that’s rich, creamy, and incredibly easy to make. It’s often seen at potlucks, holiday tables, or just as a comforting family treat. The dessert features layers of buttery graham cracker crust, sweet and tangy cherry pie filling, and a creamy cheesecake-like center.

Here’s a traditional recipe:

🍒 Classic Cherry Delight

🧺 Ingredients

Crust:

  • 1 ½ cups graham cracker crumbs

  • ¼ cup granulated sugar

  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted

Filling:

  • 1 (8 oz) block cream cheese, softened

  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 (8 oz) tub whipped topping (like Cool Whip), thawed
or substitute with homemade whipped cream (see below)

Topping:

  • 1 (21 oz) can cherry pie filling

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Make the crust:

    • In a bowl, mix graham cracker crumbs and sugar.

    • Add melted butter and stir until the mixture resembles wet sand.

    • Press firmly into the bottom of a 9×9-inch or 9×13-inch baking dish (depending on how thick you want the layers).

    • Refrigerate while preparing the filling (or bake at 350°F/175°C for 8 minutes if you prefer a firmer crust — optional).

  2. Make the filling:

    • Beat the cream cheese until smooth.

    • Add powdered sugar and vanilla, and mix until creamy.

    • Fold in the whipped topping until well blended and fluffy.

  3. Assemble:

    • Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the chilled crust.

    • Top with the cherry pie filling, spreading it gently to cover the surface.

  4. Chill:

    • Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow it to set fully.

  5. Serve:

    • Slice into squares and enjoy cold.

📝 Notes & Variations

  • Homemade whipped topping:
Whip 1 cup heavy cream with 2 tbsp powdered sugar and ½ tsp vanilla extract until soft peaks form.

  • Crust options:
Try vanilla wafers, digestive biscuits, or crushed shortbread cookies instead of graham crackers.

  • Fruit options:
Swap cherry for blueberry, strawberry, or peach pie filling for other variations.

  • Make it in cups or jars:
Great for individual servings or parties!
