Cinnamon Roll Apple Bake
Ingredients:
- 2 cans refrigerated cinnamon rolls (8 rolls per can)
- 2 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work great), peeled and diced
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg (optional)
- 2 tbsp butter, cubed
- 1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
- 1/4 cup maple syrup (optional for extra sweetness)
- 1 tbsp lemon juice (optional, to brighten the apple flavor)
For the Icing:
- The icing that comes with the cinnamon rolls (or use a homemade glaze if preferred)
Instructions:
-
Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter.
-
Prepare the Apples: Peel and dice the apples into small chunks. In a bowl, toss them with the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice (if using). This creates a sweet, spiced apple mixture.
-
Assemble the Bake:
- Open the cans of cinnamon rolls and set aside the icing packets.
- Cut each cinnamon roll into quarters (this helps distribute the cinnamon roll pieces throughout the dish).
- In the prepared baking dish, layer the apple mixture, then top with the cut-up cinnamon rolls. Try to spread them out evenly so there are cinnamon roll pieces in every bite.
- Dot the top with small cubes of butter, and sprinkle with chopped nuts (if using).
-
Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 30-35 minutes, or until the cinnamon rolls are golden brown and the apples are tender. If the top is browning too quickly, you can cover it loosely with foil and continue baking until done.
-
Finish with Icing: Once the bake is done, remove it from the oven and drizzle the cinnamon roll icing over the top. If you like a little extra maple flavor, you can mix in a tablespoon of maple syrup into the icing before drizzling.
-
Serve: Serve warm, and enjoy the gooey, cinnamon-apple goodness! This is perfect with a cup of coffee or as a sweet treat for breakfast or brunch.
Tips:
- For extra gooeyness: You can add a bit of heavy cream or milk before baking (around 1/4 cup) to make it more custardy.
- Make-ahead option: You can assemble the whole thing the night before, cover it with plastic wrap, and refrigerate. Just pop it in the oven the next morning!
This recipe is great for sharing or serving on special occasions (like a cozy weekend breakfast or Thanksgiving). Let me know if you give it a try—I’d love to hear how it turns out!
