Churros? Heck yes! Crispy on the outside, soft and airy on the inside, coated in cinnamon sugar—classic churros are a total treat. Here’s a straightforward recipe to make them at home:
Classic Churros Recipe
Makes: About 20 churros
Prep time: 15 minutes
Cook time: 15 minutes
Ingredients:
-
1 cup water
-
2 1/2 tablespoons granulated sugar
-
1/2 teaspoon salt
-
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
-
1 cup all-purpose flour
-
Oil, for frying (vegetable, canola, or peanut oil)
For coating:
-
1/2 cup granulated sugar
-
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Optional:
-
Chocolate sauce or dulce de leche for dipping
Instructions:
-
Make dough: In a medium saucepan, combine water, sugar, salt, and vegetable oil. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Remove from heat and immediately stir in flour until mixture forms a ball.
-
Heat oil: In a deep pan or fryer, heat about 2-3 inches of oil to 375°F (190°C).
-
Pipe churros: Transfer dough to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Carefully pipe 4-6 inch strips of dough into the hot oil (cut dough with scissors as you go).
-
Fry: Fry churros in batches, turning occasionally, until golden and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side.
-
Drain and coat: Remove churros with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. While still warm, toss churros in the cinnamon sugar mixture until well coated.
-
Serve: Enjoy warm with chocolate sauce, dulce de leche, or your favorite dip!
