Chocolate Croissant Regular

Posted on February 1, 2025

Making Chocolate Croissants at home can be surprisingly easy, especially when you use store-bought puff pastry dough! Here’s a simple recipe for creating delicious, flaky chocolate croissants:

Ingredients:

  • 1 sheet of puff pastry dough (store-bought, thawed if frozen)
  • 3 oz semi-sweet or dark chocolate (chocolate chips or chopped bars work well)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tbsp water (for egg wash)
  • Optional: powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions:

1. Preheat the Oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

2. Prepare the Puff Pastry:

  • Unroll the puff pastry dough onto a lightly floured surface. If it’s in a rectangular shape, cut it into smaller triangles (about 4-6 pieces per sheet, depending on the size you want your croissants to be).

3. Add the Chocolate:

  • Place a piece of chocolate (about a tablespoon of chocolate chips or a small chunk of chopped bar chocolate) on the wide end of each pastry triangle.

4. Roll the Croissants:

  • Carefully roll each triangle from the wide end to the pointed end, creating a crescent shape. Gently pinch the ends to secure them, ensuring the chocolate stays inside while baking.

5. Prepare the Egg Wash:

  • In a small bowl, whisk the egg and water together to make an egg wash. Brush this mixture over the tops of each croissant for a golden, shiny finish when baked.

6. Bake:

  • Place the rolled croissants on the prepared baking sheet. Bake them for 15-20 minutes or until they are golden brown and puffed up. Keep an eye on them, as baking times can vary based on the size of your croissants and your oven.

7. Serve:

  • Once baked, let the croissants cool slightly. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar before serving for an extra touch of sweetness.

Tips:

  • You can also add a bit of almond paste or Nutella inside for an extra layer of flavor.
  • For an even flakier croissant, you could make your own puff pastry dough, but the store-bought version is a time-saver and works great!

Enjoy these chocolate croissants with a hot cup of coffee or as a delightful breakfast treat!
