Chocolate Chip Pan Chewies

Posted on August 2, 2025
Here’s a classic Chocolate Chip Pan Chewies recipe — quick, simple, and deliciously chewy like a cross between a cookie and a blondie!

Chocolate Chip Pan Chewies

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted

  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 1/2 tsp baking powder (optional for a slightly cakier chew)

  • 3/4 to 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

  • Optional: 1/2 cup chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.

  2. Mix wet ingredients: In a medium bowl, stir together the melted butter and brown sugar until smooth. Add the egg and vanilla, and mix until combined.

  3. Add dry ingredients: Stir in the flour, salt, and baking powder (if using) just until combined—don’t overmix.

  4. Fold in chocolate chips and nuts, if using.

  5. Spread batter evenly into the prepared pan. It will be thick, so use a spatula to smooth it out.

  6. Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

  7. Cool in pan for at least 15 minutes before slicing into squares.

Tips:

  • For ultra-gooey centers, err on the lower end of the baking time.

  • Add a sprinkle of flaky sea salt on top before baking for a sweet-salty twist.

  • Double the recipe and bake in a 9×13-inch pan for a crowd.
