Chicken Wing Boil

Posted on June 30, 2025

A Chicken Wing Boil is a flavorful and fun twist on a traditional seafood boil, swapping shrimp or crab for tender, seasoned chicken wings. It’s perfect for backyard gatherings or casual dinners. Here’s how to make one:

🍗 Chicken Wing Boil Recipe

🧂 Ingredients:

  • 2–3 lbs chicken wings (split into flats and drumettes)

  • 4 ears of corn (cut into halves or thirds)

  • 1 lb baby potatoes or red potatoes (halved if large)

  • 1 lb smoked sausage (cut into 2-inch pieces)

  • 1–2 lemons (halved)

  • 1 large onion (quartered)

  • 6–8 cloves garlic (smashed)

  • 3–4 bay leaves

  • 1–2 tbsp Old Bay seasoning (or Cajun seasoning)

  • 1 tbsp paprika

  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)

  • Salt & pepper to taste

  • Water or chicken broth (enough to cover)

  • 1 stick (½ cup) unsalted butter

  • Fresh parsley, for garnish

Optional Add-ins:

  • Hard-boiled eggs (shells on, added whole)

  • Mushrooms

  • Green beans

🔥 Instructions:

  1. Prep the Boil Base:

    • In a large stockpot, fill with water or chicken broth.

    • Add lemons (squeeze first), garlic, onion, bay leaves, Old Bay, paprika, cayenne (if using), and salt.

    • Bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes to develop flavor.

  2. Add Potatoes and Sausage:

    • Add potatoes and cook for 10–12 minutes.

    • Add sausage pieces and continue cooking for 5 minutes.

  3. Add Chicken Wings:

    • Add chicken wings to the pot and boil for about 15–20 minutes, or until fully cooked (internal temp of 165°F / 74°C).

  4. Add Corn:

    • Add corn in the last 5–7 minutes of boiling.

  5. Butter Sauce (optional but recommended):

    • Melt the butter in a saucepan with extra seasoning (Old Bay, garlic powder, lemon juice, etc.).

    • Drizzle over the finished boil before serving.

  6. Drain & Serve:

    • Drain the pot and spread the contents on a large tray or newspaper-lined table.

    • Pour butter sauce on top and garnish with chopped parsley and lemon wedges.

🥣 Serving Suggestions:

  • Serve with crusty bread or cornbread.

  • Have hot sauce, extra seasoning, or a garlic aioli on the side.

  • Eat with your hands and enjoy the mess!
