  • 1.5 lbs ground beef

  • 1 medium onion, chopped

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 5 cups thinly sliced potatoes (Yukon gold or russets)

  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup (or cream of cheddar/chicken)

  • 1/2 cup milk

  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (divided)

  • Salt & pepper, to taste

  • 1/2 tsp paprika (optional, for color and flavor)

  • 1 tbsp olive oil or butter

  • Chopped parsley (optional garnish)

1. Preheat Oven

Preheat to 375Β°F (190Β°C). Grease a 9Γ—13-inch baking dish.

2. Cook the Ground Beef

In a large skillet, heat olive oil and sautΓ© the onion until soft (3–4 min).
Add garlic and cook 1 more minute.
Add ground beef and cook until browned. Season with salt, pepper, and paprika. Drain excess fat.

3. Make the Sauce

In a bowl, whisk together cream of mushroom soup and milk. Stir in 1 cup of shredded cheese.

4. Assemble the Casserole

Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish.
Spread half the beef mixture over the potatoes.
Pour half the cheese sauce over that.
Repeat layers: potatoes β†’ beef β†’ cheese sauce.
Top with remaining 1 cup shredded cheese.

5. Bake

Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
Uncover and bake an additional 15–20 minutes, or until potatoes are tender and top is golden and bubbly.

6. Serve

Let rest 5–10 minutes before serving. Garnish with parsley if desired.
