Butter Swim Biscuits

Posted on June 10, 2025

Here’s a rich, ultra-buttery recipe for Butter Swim Biscuits — so named because they literally swim in melted butter while baking! These biscuits are soft, fluffy inside with crispy, golden edges. No kneading or rolling required — just mix, pour, and bake!

🧈 Butter Swim Biscuits

Servings: 9 biscuits
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Bake Time: 25–30 minutes

✅ Ingredients:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tbsp baking powder

  • 1 tbsp sugar

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 ¾ cups buttermilk

  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C).

  2. Make the Dough:

    • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.

    • Pour in the buttermilk and stir until just combined. (Dough will be sticky — don’t overmix.)

  3. Add Butter to Pan:

    • Pour the melted butter into an 8×8 or 9×9 inch baking dish.

  4. Add Dough:

    • Gently spoon or spread the biscuit dough into the pan, right on top of the melted butter. Use a spatula to press evenly into corners — butter will pool around the edges (that’s good!).

  5. Score the Dough:

    • Use a knife to cut the dough into 9 squares before baking (this helps it bake more evenly and makes it easier to separate later).

  6. Bake:

    • Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the edges are crispy and buttery.

  7. Cool Slightly & Serve:

    • Let cool 5–10 minutes before serving. Serve warm with honey, jam, or even sausage gravy.

🔁 Optional Add-ins:

  • ½ tsp garlic powder or herbs for savory flavor

  • Shredded cheddar or pepper jack cheese

  • Drizzle with honey butter after baking
