Best Salmon Patties

Here’s a Best-Ever Salmon Patties recipe — crispy on the outside, tender and flavorful inside, with simple pantry ingredients. Great for a weeknight dinner or weekend brunch!


🐟 Best Salmon Patties (a.k.a. Salmon Cakes or Croquettes)

📝 Ingredients:

  • 1 (14.75 oz) can salmon, drained and flaked (or 1½ cups cooked salmon)

  • ½ cup breadcrumbs (or crushed saltines or panko)

  • 2 eggs

  • ¼ cup finely chopped onion

  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley or green onions

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional but adds depth)

  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

  • Salt & pepper, to taste

  • 2–3 tablespoons oil (vegetable or olive oil for frying)


🔥 Instructions:

1. Mix It Up

In a large bowl, combine:

  • Flaked salmon (remove skin and bones if using canned)

  • Eggs, breadcrumbs, onion, parsley, lemon juice, mustard, garlic powder, salt & pepper
    Mix until combined. The mixture should hold together. If too wet, add more breadcrumbs; if too dry, add a splash of milk or a little mayo.

2. Shape the Patties

Form into 4–6 patties (about ½ to ¾ inch thick).

3. Cook

  • Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat.

  • Fry patties for 3–4 minutes per side or until golden brown and crispy.

  • Drain on paper towels.


🍽️ Serve With:

  • Tartar sauce, hot sauce, or remoulade

  • Rice, mashed potatoes, or grits

  • Side salad, coleslaw, or roasted vegetables

  • Tuck into a bun for a salmon burger!


🔄 Variations:

  • Southern-style: Add a touch of hot sauce and chopped bell pepper.

  • Low-carb: Use almond flour or crushed pork rinds instead of breadcrumbs.

  • Fresh herbs: Dill or chives add a great punch.
