Best Homemade Shampoo

Posted on February 2, 2025

Making your own shampoo can be a fun and natural way to care for your hair! Here’s a simple and effective Best Homemade Shampoo recipe using all-natural ingredients that cleanse, nourish, and promote healthy hair.

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup castile soap (liquid) – This is a gentle, plant-based soap that cleanses without stripping natural oils.
  • 1/4 cup aloe vera gel – Hydrates and soothes the scalp.
  • 1/4 cup distilled water – To dilute the ingredients and create the right consistency.
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil (or olive oil) – Moisturizes and helps to condition the hair.
  • 1-2 tsp essential oils (optional) – For fragrance and additional benefits. Some good options are:
    • Lavender oil (calming and soothing)
    • Peppermint oil (stimulates hair growth and invigorates)
    • Tea tree oil (great for dandruff or scalp health)
    • Rosemary oil (promotes hair growth)

Instructions:

  1. Combine the Ingredients:
    • In a clean, empty bottle (preferably a squeezable or pump bottle), pour in the castile soap, aloe vera gel, and distilled water. This will serve as the base of your shampoo.
    • Add the coconut oil or olive oil to the mixture. If your coconut oil is solid, warm it gently until it melts, then mix it into the shampoo.
  2. Add Essential Oils:
    • Add 1-2 teaspoons of your chosen essential oils. A little goes a long way, so start with just a few drops (5-10 drops) and adjust based on your scent preference.
  3. Shake Well:
    • Put the cap on the bottle and shake it well to combine all the ingredients. Castile soap and oil-based ingredients may separate, so give the bottle a good shake each time before using.
  4. Use:
    • To use, apply a small amount to your wet hair and massage it into your scalp, working it into a lather. Rinse thoroughly with warm water. Repeat if necessary.

Tips:

  • Adjust Consistency: If the shampoo feels too runny, add a bit more castile soap or aloe vera gel to thicken it up. If it’s too thick, add more water to thin it out.
  • Preservative-Free: Since this shampoo doesn’t contain commercial preservatives, it’s best used within 3-4 weeks. Store it in a cool, dry place to help it last longer.
  • Customization: You can switch up the essential oils based on your hair type and needs. For example:
    • Dry hair: Try adding a few drops of ylang-ylang or geranium essential oils.
    • Oily hair: Lemon or rosemary essential oils are great for balancing oil production.

This Best Homemade Shampoo is all-natural and free of harsh chemicals, so it’s gentle on your scalp and hair while keeping it nourished and clean. Plus, it’s fully customizable for your hair’s specific needs! Enjoy your natural hair care routine!
