Posted on February 4, 2025

Here’s a simple recipe for making Bang Bang Chicken at home! It’s crispy, spicy, and creamy—perfect for a delicious appetizer or main dish.

Ingredients:

For the Chicken:

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breast or thighs (cut into bite-sized pieces)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk (or regular milk)
  • Oil for frying (vegetable oil or peanut oil works well)

For the Bang Bang Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup sweet chili sauce (you can find this at most grocery stores)
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha (optional for extra spice)
  • 1 tablespoon honey (optional, for a touch of sweetness)

To Serve:

  • Chopped green onions
  • Sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Chicken:
    • In a shallow bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
    • In another bowl, whisk the egg and buttermilk together.
    • Dip the chicken pieces first into the egg mixture, then coat them evenly in the flour mixture.
  2. Fry the Chicken:
    • Heat oil in a deep pan or skillet over medium-high heat (about 350°F or 175°C). Test by dropping a small piece of chicken into the oil—if it sizzles, the oil is ready.
    • Carefully add the coated chicken pieces to the oil in batches, avoiding overcrowding.
    • Fry for 3-4 minutes per side or until golden and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  3. Make the Bang Bang Sauce:
    • In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha (if using), and honey. Adjust the sweetness or spiciness to taste.
  4. Toss the Chicken:
    • Once all the chicken is fried and drained, place the chicken in a large mixing bowl.
    • Pour the Bang Bang sauce over the chicken and toss gently to coat the chicken evenly with the sauce.
  5. Serve:
    • Transfer the chicken to a serving platter.
    • Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds, if desired.
    • Serve with rice or enjoy it as-is for a snack or appetizer.

Enjoy your crispy, tangy, spicy Bang Bang Chicken! It’s sure to be a hit. Would you like to adjust any part of the recipe, or do you have any questions about it?
