🧾 Ingredients

For the Bananas Foster Sauce:

  • 4 ripe bananas, sliced

  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter

  • ½ cup dark brown sugar

  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon

  • ¼ cup dark rum (or substitute with banana extract + water)

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • Pinch of salt

For the Pudding:

  • 1 (5.1 oz) box instant vanilla pudding mix

  • 2 ½ cups cold whole milk

  • 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk

  • 1 ½ cups heavy whipping cream

  • 1 box vanilla wafers or butter cookies

Optional Garnishes:

  • Whipped cream

  • Caramel drizzle

  • Crushed pecans

🥄 Instructions

1. Make the Bananas Foster Sauce

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter.

  2. Add brown sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Stir until the sugar dissolves.

  3. Add the banana slices and cook for 2–3 minutes until softened.

  4. Carefully add rum and vanilla (if using rum, light it with a long lighter for a flambé effect, then let the flames die out).

  5. Cook 1–2 minutes more until sauce is syrupy. Let cool.

2. Prepare the Pudding Base

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together pudding mix and cold milk until thickened (about 2 minutes).

  2. Stir in sweetened condensed milk until smooth.

  3. In a separate bowl, whip heavy cream to soft peaks, then fold into pudding mixture.

3. Assemble the Pudding

  1. In a trifle dish or individual cups, layer:

    • Vanilla wafers

    • Pudding mixture

    • Spoonfuls of Bananas Foster sauce (with banana slices)

  2. Repeat layers 2–3 times, ending with pudding and sauce.

4. Chill

  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours (overnight is best).

5. Serve

  • Top with whipped cream, caramel drizzle, or pecans before serving if desired.
