đź§ş Ingredients

For the Dough:
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for kneading)

  • 2 1/4 tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast

  • 1/2 cup warm milk (110°F / 43°C)

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1/2 tsp salt

For the Apple Pie Filling:
  • 2–3 medium apples (like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled and diced

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • 1/3 cup brown sugar

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg (optional)

  • 1 tsp cornstarch (for thickening)

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice (to balance sweetness)

For the Cinnamon Sugar Layer:
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar

  • 2 tsp cinnamon

  • 2 tbsp butter, softened

For the Glaze (Optional but recommended):
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • 1–2 tbsp milk or cream

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

1. Make the Dough

  • In a bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.

  • Add sugar, melted butter, eggs, and salt. Mix well.

  • Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.

  • Knead on a floured surface for 6–8 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  • Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 1–1.5 hours (until doubled in size).

2. Make the Apple Pie Filling

  • In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.

  • Cook for 5–7 minutes until apples are soft.

  • Stir in cornstarch and cook another 1–2 minutes until thickened.

  • Let cool completely.

3. Assemble the Rolls

  • Roll dough into a large rectangle (about 16×12 inches).

  • Spread softened butter on the dough.

  • Sprinkle evenly with brown sugar + cinnamon mixture.

  • Spoon the cooled apple filling evenly over the top.

  • Roll tightly from the long side and slice into 12 equal rolls.

4. Second Rise

  • Place rolls in a greased 9×13 baking dish.

  • Cover and let rise again for 30–45 minutes.

5. Bake

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

  • Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.

6. Make the Glaze

  • Mix powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth.

  • Drizzle over warm rolls just before serving.

  • Want to shortcut? Use store-bought cinnamon roll dough and just add the apple pie filling!

  • Add chopped pecans or walnuts for texture.

  • These freeze well—just reheat and glaze when ready to eat.
