Amish Onion Fritters with Chive Dip

Here’s a deliciously crispy and savory recipe for Amish Onion Fritters paired with a cool and creamy Chive Dip — perfect as a snack, appetizer, or side dish!


🧅 Amish Onion Fritters

Ingredients:

  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced or diced

  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 1 tbsp sugar

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

  • 1/4 tsp paprika (optional)

  • 1/2 cup milk (or buttermilk)

  • Vegetable oil for frying


Instructions:

  1. Prepare the batter:

    • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, pepper, and paprika.

    • Add milk and stir until just combined — the batter should be thick but stirrable.

  2. Add onions:

    • Stir in the sliced onions, making sure they’re well coated in the batter.

  3. Fry the fritters:

    • Heat about 1/2 inch of oil in a skillet over medium heat.

    • Once hot (about 350°F / 175°C), drop spoonfuls of the mixture into the oil.

    • Flatten slightly and fry 2–3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.

    • Drain on paper towels and keep warm in a low oven if needed.


🌿 Chive Dip

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup sour cream (or Greek yogurt)

  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise

  • 2–3 tbsp fresh chives, finely chopped

  • 1 tsp lemon juice or white vinegar

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • Optional: a pinch of garlic powder

Instructions:

  1. Combine all dip ingredients in a small bowl.

  2. Chill for 15–30 minutes for best flavor.


📝 Tips:

  • For extra flavor, add a bit of finely chopped green pepper or corn to the fritter batter.

  • The fritters are best served hot with the chilled dip on the side.
