Air fryer Best Scalloped Potatoes

Here’s a delicious and easy recipe for air fryer scalloped potatoes—crispy on top, creamy in the center, and full of cheesy flavor!


🥔 Air Fryer Scalloped Potatoes (Best Version!)

✅ Ingredients:

  • 2 large russet or Yukon gold potatoes, thinly sliced (~1/8 inch thick)

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup milk (whole milk or half-and-half preferred)

  • ½ cup heavy cream (optional but makes it richer)

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

  • ½ cup Parmesan cheese, grated

  • ½ tsp garlic powder

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • Optional: chopped chives, thyme, or paprika for garnish


🔥 Instructions:

1. Preheat Air Fryer:

Set to 350°F (175°C).

2. Make the Sauce:

  • In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter.

  • Stir in flour to make a roux; cook 1–2 minutes.

  • Slowly whisk in milk (and cream if using). Stir constantly until thickened.

  • Add garlic powder, salt, pepper, and both cheeses. Stir until melted and smooth.

3. Assemble Potatoes:

  • In a greased, air fryer-safe baking dish (metal or silicone), layer half the potatoes.

  • Pour half the cheese sauce over the layer.

  • Repeat with remaining potatoes and cheese sauce.

4. Air Fry:

  • Cover the dish with foil.

  • Air fry at 350°F for 25 minutes.

  • Remove foil and air fry another 10–15 minutes, until golden and bubbly on top and potatoes are fork-tender.

5. Rest & Serve:

  • Let sit for 5–10 minutes before serving. Garnish with herbs or paprika if desired.


🍽 Tips:

  • Thin slices = even cooking. Use a mandoline if you have one.

  • For crispier edges, broil (or increase air fryer temp to 400°F) for the last 2–3 minutes.

  • Add diced ham or bacon to turn it into a full meal.
